Have you ever shopped for a fancy dress, seen something spectacular on the rack and had to have it, even if it didn’t fit “quite” right? Then during the event you are nothing short of miserable because you can’t breathe after dinner? I think at one time or another we have all done that to ourselves!
Whether the special event you are attending is a wedding, charity event, wine tasting or fancy gala, make sure whatever you choose to wear fits well and makes you feel good about yourself!
Try to not wait until the last minute to go shopping for your dress. Before you know it the special day will be upon you and the worst thing to do is panic shop! If you don’t find exactly what you are looking for you’re going to regret it during the event and you may not even want to go.
Having outfits on hand already will make life a lot easier for you. Make sure you have a variety of lengths in your closet. My famous saying is, “Don’t have all black color dresses”. Black is not a great choice for attending a wedding because black is associated with funerals. You may want to go with a dark blue if you want to wear a shade close to black.
Having a variety of fabric selections in your closet will also help you. The fabric you choose is determined upon what type of event you are attending, wedding versus wine tasting event for example.
Satin is for more formal events, slinky and long are great for special charity events and going out with your significant other.
Lacey dresses are great for either day or evening and they are fun to dress up and down. You can wear this type of dress for all occasions too!
Patterned dresses are usually worn during the day because they have a more casual look. Wearing black and white print can be very casual as well, but if you accessorize it with fancy jewelry it can look dressy. This type of look is perfect if you have a day and evening full of social events for you can simply accessorize the outfit you wore to the daytime event to dress it up, change purse and shoes to reflect a more evening classy look and you are good to go!
Where you purchase your dresses will determine what type of outfit you are going to find. For example, Ann Taylor has very conservative style to their dresses, so wearing something from their store for a day event would be great.
Shoes and jewelry can really make a difference in how you look. Take time to make sure you accessorize your dress appropriately to go with the look you are trying to achieve.
