Shoes are an important part of your wardrobe. Not only can they make or break an outfit, if you’re not comfortable in your shoes you’ll wind up feeling miserable. How you take care of your shoes and knowing what to shop for can determine how long they will last. Don’t go for the cheap pair of shoes to save a couple bucks. If you are planning on owning a pair of shoes for a long period of time make sure they are made of quality material. Leather is extremely durable and with proper care can last years!
Organize
¤ Before you start to shop for more shoes, you need to organize what you own first. Have a system in place for your shoes. Designate an area in your closet for your shoes that is easily accessible.
¤ Cluttered and piled on top of each other at the bottom of your closet is not a good thing, you’ll find yourself searching for that “other” shoe and shoes with heels can really damage other shoes in your closet.
¤ Once you have identified a good place to store your shoes, go through each pair and decide which ones to keep and which to get rid of. You want to revisit this once a year to get rid of any shoes you don’t wear or that have gotten too worn.
Shop
¤ Now that you’ve made room in your closet for new shoes, have a list of different types of shoes that you would feel comfortable wearing and write down what you would use those shoes for. For example a list could consist of: running shoes for jogging each morning, wedge shoe for every day, high heels for fancy occasions, pair of boots for bad weather, comfy flat shoes for running errands. Evening shoes and day shoes are of the past. As long as you pair it with the correct outfits, all shoes become versatile.
¤ Having a variety of styles and colors is important because it brings life to your outfit. So if you visualize the outfits you wear, picture what you would like to wear with it on your feet and add it to the list!
¤ Remember, there is no specific style of shoe that is trendy; shoe styles are an extension of your unique personality. As long as you find a purpose for the shoes, it is the right choice.
¤ Try to shop for shoes that are on sale and make sure the shoe fits from the top of the toe to the heel. Don’t buy it if it doesn’t fit it will sit in your closet and collect dust bunnies!
¤ If you follow the steps above from start to finish you will soon have a wonderful functioning closet filled with shoes that fit your lifestyle! You might even find a long lost pair during the organizing stage
